BANGALORE: Bangalore's premier cultural centre Chowdiah Memorial Hall uses them. One of the city's best malls, the Mantri Mall, uses them on all its floors. High-end bar lounges use them. They're a preferred brand among the rich. And a must-have for audio and home cinema fanatics.
Bose audio systems are super expensive, but they're so good and their tiny sizes often so cute that many buyers don't think beyond the products of Amar Gopal Bose, who passed away on Friday.
Prashanth B, an IT professional buying a home entertainment system at the Bose store on MG Road here on Saturday, said he was buying Bose because it was the best in the world. "I checked out some other major global brands, and none came close to the Bose quality. The way the speakers sit in your house, they are almost invisible. Besides, a Bose home theatre is a status symbol," he said.
Bopaiah CG, administrative officer, Chowdiah Memorial Hall, said the centre got the Bose system about six years ago. The hall has eight speakers. In most halls here, event organizers typically have to arrange their own sound systems because the in-house ones aren't very good. "But in Chowdiah, I don't have to do that," said an event organizer who didn't want to be named.
Bose systems in India start at about Rs 5,500 for earphones and go up to Rs 5.5 lakh for home entertainment systems. "But even students buy from us," said Parul, a store assistant at the Bose store in The Forum Mall on Hosur Road. "Anyone who loves good sound come to us," she said.

* Amar Bose will continue to live because of his technology. I'm proud he was of Indian origin. I have not met him, but being in the field (of high-end audio systems) for the past four years, I can say many look up to him. If you can emulate some portion of his life, it would be great.
