BENGALURU: The high court has stayed the selection process of the vice-chancellor of the University of Mysore (UoM) until the next date of hearing. The vacation bench of the court, which passed the interim order, did not specify the next date of hearing.
The court was hearing a petition from Prof J Rajashekar, the in-charge V-C of the university and one of the aspirants for the post.
He has claimed that although the service certificate issued by the university certified that at present, there is no vigilance or disciplinary proceedings pending or contemplated against him, the department of higher education, in the main list pertaining to the details of applications for selection to the V-C post, has remarked that an inquiry was pending against him. This, he argued, could disentitle him for the post as per the UGC regulations. Observing that there is a prima facie case, vacation judge Justice KS Hemalekha stayed the remarks entered in Rajashekar’s application.
The judge also ordered notice to the government and the search committee for selection of the V-C.
