Karnataka nurse dies by suicide: Father blames married neighbour, cites harassment; police book abetment case

BENGALURU: A 23-year-old nurse ended her life by suicide at her aunt's residence in Nelamangala town following alleged harassment by her neighbour, a married man.

The nurse, identified as S Bhavana from Gyarehalli in Gubbi, Tumakuru district, was being forced into an affair by neighbour Naveen, claimed her father Shivanna.

"As I am a farmer, I took Naveen's help to transfer money online to Bhavana's mobile when she was studying nursing in Mysuru last year. I used to give cash to Naveen, and he used to transfer the same amount to Bhavana. Taking advantage of the situation, Naveen allegedly started forcing Bhavana into a relationship with him. Unable to bear his torture, she took the extreme step," Shivanna told the police.

Unaware of the law to be followed in suicide cases, the nurse's family took her body to Gyarehalli for the last rites.

The police came to know about the incident Wednesday morning and immediately went to Gyarehalli. The cops sent the body for an autopsy before handing it back to the family for the funeral.

The investigating officer said Naveen has been booked for abetting suicide, based on the complaint of the father.
