Handicrafts Week begins today

mangalore: the office of the development commissioner (handicrafts), ministry of textiles, will be celebrating the all india handicrafts week from saturday to december 15, with a view to creating awareness and disseminating information of the schemes available for artisans. during this period, the department is conducting a state-level marketing workshop in bangalore on december 12 and a local level marketing workshop in mangalore on december 14.r. chandra, assistant director, handicrafts here told reporters at a press conference on friday that at the local level marketing workshop, about 50 craftspersons/ngos, including experts in various crafts were being invited to facilitate interaction of these craftspersons with various government agencies. this was to diagnose the weakness/problems attached to the development of handicrafts and to identify remedial measures. he said experts would interact directly with the participating craftspersons by sharing their experiences, suggestions, solving problems, etc.
