Gopal gets advance bail

chennai: the madras high court on monday granted anticipatory bail to r r gopal, editor of a tamil bi-weekly, who apprehended arrest in connection with the abduction of kannada thespian rajkumar on july 30, 2000. granting bail, justice v kanakaraj directed that if gopal was arraigned in the case, he should be granted bail on furnishing a personal bond for rs 25,000 and two sureties for like amounts each.in his bail petition, gopal, editor of nakkheeran, contended that he had come to understand that the tamil nadu police had filed a case for criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, and kidnapping of the actor and that he apprehended arrest in connection with the case. stating that he feared ill-treatment at the hands of the police if arrested, gopal said he was ready to abide by any condition laid down by the court for granting bail.
