about eight years ago, will get Rs 6.1 lakh as relief with 6% interest, after the high court enhanced the compensation payable to her by Rs 2.6 lakh.


“Though the injuries may not have resulted in any restriction of movement, they led to disfigurement of the claimant’s lower limb. Although it is not possible to equate money with human suffering or personal deprivation, an attempt has to be made to award damages so far as money can compensate the loss,” Justice K Somashekar said in his order. The judge directed United India Assurance Company to settle the compensation amount within six weeks. Annapoorna was 15 when the bus hit her in VV Puram on July 20, 2011. Due to the impact, she fell down and the rear side of the bus ran over her right leg.

She moved the lower court seeking compensation. On January 18, 2013, the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal in Bengaluru awarded her Rs 3.5 lakh with 6% interest as compensation. Aggrieved by this, she challenged the verdict before the high court, seeking higher relief.
