bangalore: lola and manni are a couple. manni is involved in smuggling stolen cars and one day forgets a plastic bag containing dm 100,000 in the berlin underground. he has 20 minutes to get the money back. in despair, he phones lola who promises to help. the minutes tick by and lola runs... this is the synopsis of inaugural film run lola run, directed by tom tykwer, at the german film festival in bangalore from december 8 to 13.
the festival, being held to commemorate `a decade of german cinema (1990-2000), will show 10 german films at triveni theatre. it will be inaugurated by information minister b.k. chandrashekar at the hall on december 8 at 6 pm. passes are available at max mueller bhavan, suchitra film society and bangalore film society. two films will be screened daily, one at 6 pm and the other at 8 pm. caroline link's beyond silence, nominated for the oscar in 1997, buena vista social club by wim wenders, another oscar nominee in 2000, and peter sehr's kaspar hauser will be screened. another film of interest is broken silence, directed by wolfgang panzer, in which a swiss monk tells a catholic cleric about his travels across india en route to indonesia. among other films to be screened are the german film award winner in 1997 comedian harmonists by joseph vilsmaier, schtonk by helmut dieti, fatih akin's short sharp shock, and the untouchable which won the german film award in 2000. karnataka director of information d.v. guruprasad on tuesday said the festival is being organised by the department of culture, ministry of tourism and culture, directorate of film festivals, ministry of information and broadcasting and the embassy of the federal republic of germany. max mueller bhavan, bangalore, director rudolf bartsch will be the chief guest and department of information, tourism and youth services principal secretary a.k.m. naik will preside over the inaugural function. bangalore will also host the international film festival 2001, in october 2001. this is the second time bangalore will host the festival. earlier, bangalore was scheduled to host the festival in 1992. director of film festival malti sahai will be in the city on wednesday to review the arrangements. the venue will be decided then.
