BENGALURU: A post-midnight road trip as part of a

birthday bash

turned fatal for four men when their speeding multi-utility vehicle toppled on the Devanahalli-Hoskote Road on the outskirts of the city.

Five men

suffered injuries in the accident.


M Mallikarjun Reddy, 26, resident of Yelahanka and native of Nakkalapalli village near Bagepalli, J Nagaraj, 25, of Chakavelu village in Bagepalli, N Ashok Reddy, 24, of Maravapalli village in Bagepalli and Sundar Kumar, 27, of Shidlaghatta died in the accident. Mallikarjun worked with GKVK while Nagaraj was an arts student with Bagepalli Government College. Ashok and Sundar were drivers, police said.

The injured are B Girish, 23, N Ramesh Reddy, 26, S Manjunath, 26, V Ashok, 26, A Raghunath Reddy, 22 — all residents of Nakkalapalli village in Bagepalli and employees of private factories in the city.

Youth had hosted birthday party before heading to Nandi Hills

Police said Mallikarjun, who works as an office assistant, turned 26 on Friday and hosted a party for his friends in his room in Avalahalli. Ashok Reddy, a driver with a private travel agency, had brought his MUV.

“In the wee hours, Mallikarjun and others decided to visit Nandi Hills for the sun rise and spend the day there. Ashok Reddy was driving around 120kmph when the accident took place around 5am,” police said.

The vehicle first skidded off the road before toppling. “It turned at least three times before coming to a halt. All those who died were sitting in the front and middle portion of the vehicle. Most died of head and spinal cord injuries,” police said.
