BENGALURU: Former captain of the
Karnataka football team A Kantharaj passed away in Hoskote, the Karnataka State Football Association said on Friday. He was 75.
A versatile defender who became famous in the ITI jersey, Kantharaj captained Karnataka for many years including at the Calicut Nationals in 1976 when Karnataka lost to Bengal in the final.
He was also part of the ITI squad that won the inaugural Federation Cup in 1977.
He is also the founder of Town SC Football Club in Hoskote. He is survived by his wife and three sons. The KSFA and BDFA have mourned Kantharaj’s demise.
