BANGALORE: Eli Lilly India on Wednesday launched a new drug for juvenile diabetics, even as it declared that it would not start an insulin price war, with Wockhardt dropping the rates earlier this week.

BANGALORE: Eli Lilly India on Wednesday launched a new drug for juvenile diabetics, even as it declared that it would not start an insulin price war, with Wockhardt dropping the rates earlier this week.
Eli Lilly plans to deliver the new drug called HumaCare Junior free of cost to deserving children who suffer from Type I diabetes.
Rajiv Gulati, CMD, Eli Lilly India, while addressing a press conference said with 3-4 children out of every 1000 suffering from the disease, it was important for a service like this.

Dwelling on Eli Lilly India''s plans, Gulati said the company nurtures ambitions of achieving a market share of 40 per cent by next year. Currently it enjoys a 30 per cent share.
It is estimated that the diabetic market in India is worth Rs 500 crore. Currently there are 32 million diabetic patients in the country and by the year 2020 it is expected that there will be 52 million patients.
