Dhananjaya was employed as a technician with Sterling & Wilson Pvt Ltd and deployed on KIA premises. His wife, Divya Deshpande, a homemaker, told police she tried to reach him at 6-7pm, but his phone was switched off.
At 8pm, Ravichandran, maintenance manager of the firm, called Dhananjaya's aunt, Jayashree, saying Dhananjaya was assigned meter-reading work at the pump house and allegedly fell into a sump and died.
Divya alleged the sump cover was not properly maintained and that no staff was appointed to monitor the area, which resulted in her husband's fatal fall.
A case was registered against the firm under BNS Section 106 (causing death by negligence).
