BANGALORE: The East Cultural Association (ECA) on Saturday launched its Onam celebrations - Onotsavam 2003 - amid much pomp and gaiety.
The festivities got off to a grand start in a packed auditorium in ECA, Indiranagar where the traditional and modern cultures blended well. While the women folk displayed their talent in the traditional dances, the youth showcased the more modern steps.
A traditional cuisine of Kerala delicacies were also part of the celebrations.
Well known writer K.L. Mohana Varma in his address spoke on the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. "Kerala has a cultural heritage which has now made it an important holiday destination for people across the globe. Onam is always celebrated with a lot of pomp everywhere," he added.
Popular director and cine artist Srinivasan kept the audience in good humour while he spoke about some film artists and also the Onam festival.
On Sunday, the festivities will include cultural programmes, pookalam and fancy dress competitions, and housie.
