The victim, who had lost his way, approached a group that included Appu and Giri, seeking directions. However, the group mistook him to be from a rival gang and killed him, said police.
On Sunday, police, based on credible information, tracked Appu and Giri and a team led by KR Puram inspector Jayaraj H found them at Katamnallur Gate, near Whitefield. Police said they had to open fire as the accused resisted arrest and fired three rounds at the police jeep using an illegal firearm.
“We had information about their movement on a bike near Kadugodi and the police team found them at Katamnallur Gate. The accused tried to escape, but we managed to get our vehicle ahead of them. Appu then used his illegal pistol and shot at our jeep, forcing Jayaraj to open fire,” police said.
While Jayaraj shot Naveen in his right leg in self-defence, Giri tried to escape from the spot. Muniraju then began chasing Giri, who slashed him with a knife on the right hand, forcing Jayaraj to shoot at the latter’s leg too, police added.
Appu and Giri are at KR Puram government hospital, while constable Muniraju is being treated at a private hospital.
Facing murder cases
Police said Appu is facing six cases, including murder case of Sirpur Srinivas, a BJP leader in KR Puram, while Giri is involved in the murder case of Banashankari businessman Navamani. According to DCP Ahad, six others identified as Vishal, Vishvas, Arbaaz, Sunil Kumar, Sayivardhan BR and Kiran alias Lambu have already been arrested in the BPO employee murder case.
