Drunken road rage: Two students go on assault spree after scooter-car crash in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A late-night drunken rampage on Sir M Visvesvaraya Road in Nayappanahalli, Hulimavu, ended with two young women allegedly assaulting a cab driver, passers-by, and even police personnel after the driver questioned them for crashing their scooter into his car.The incident occurred between 10.45pm and 11pm Saturday. The driver, Ahmed Gurkar, 47, suffered injuries in the attack. According to police, the accused — Liza, 19, and Amran Mathew, 18 — are college students living in BTM Layout II Stage and Koramangala, respectively.
According to investigators, the two had attended a party and were riding home on a scooter when they hit Ahmed's Maruti Swift Dzire. The impact damaged the rear-left portion of the car and caused the girls to lose balance and fall.Ahmed, a resident of Wajid Layout in Kothanur, said he first tried to help them. "I helped the girls get up. When they were leaving, I stopped them and told them there was damage to my car and they had to pay for its repair. They started abusing me and assaulted me," he stated in his complaint. He alleged that they struck him with their hands and helmet and kicked him repeatedly before attempting to flee. Bystanders who saw the commotion intervened and demanded an explanation from the girls. The situation escalated and the girls allegedly began attacking those gathered too.Ahmed said he removed the key from their scooter to prevent them from escaping. One of the girls ran into a nearby restaurant and hid while the other was held back by the crowd. "Though the girls were assaulting them, people stayed calm and brought the girl hiding in the restaurant outside," he said.Residents called police helpline 112, and a Hoysala patrol arrived at the spot. Even in front of police, the girls allegedly continued to hurl abuses and show obscene gestures, while attempting to hit Ahmed and the others. Nearly 15 police personnel, including women staff, were required to bring the situation under control."It took us almost 15 minutes to get them into the Hoysala vehicle. They were not in a condition to listen to anyone," a senior officer said. Cops later summoned the parents of both students.Based on Ahmed's complaint, police registered a case against the two for assault, causing damage, and creating public nuisance. They were served notice and released around 3am Sunday. "We will take further action after collecting statements from witnesses and examining footage from nearby cameras," the officer said.

If the girls hit the man, a notice is served and they are released because it is not a cognizable offence in the eyes of the law. But if the case were the other way around, it would probably result in attempt to murder and a long sentence to teach the man what Naari Shakti means and what prominence it has in the eyes of the prejudiced lawRead allPost comment
