Domestic violence: Mother kills 5-year-old girl, attempts suicide in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A husband-wife quarrel in the city took a tragic turn with the woman allegedly strangling her five-year-old daughter to death before attempting to take her own life by hanging. However, she survived as she fell from the loosely tied noose.The incident took place at KG Lakkenahalli, in Madanayakanahalli near Nelamangala, Wednesday night. The victim is J Siri. Her mother J Mahalakshmi's condition is stable, police quoted doctors as saying. The husband, Jayaram, has been arrested for abetting the offence.Mahalakshmi worked as housekeeping staff for a private car showroom near Nelamangala, while Jayaram quit his job as an assistant at a two-wheeler showroom. According to family sources, Jayaram subsequently turned alcoholic and often beat up Mahalakshmi after suspecting her fidelity."Wednesday night, Jayaram, who was in an inebriated condition, again fought with Mahalakshmi, and she decided to end her life as well as Siri's. Locking herself in the room, she strangled Siri to death with a cloth and, using the same, she hung herself from the ceiling. However, due to loosely tied noose, she fell down. By then, her uncle Muniraju had entered the house and broke open the door after Mahalakshmi told him about Siri's death and her attempt," an investigating officer said.Muniraju filed the complaint with Madanayakanahalli police, accusing Jayaram of abetting the incident.
