Domestic help steals Rs 25 lakh from employer’s house in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A domestic help, employed by a family for over a decade, has been accused of stealing around Rs 25 lakh from her employer’s house in Jnanabharati Layout. Cops have recovered Rs 15 lakh of the stolen money.

The theft came to light when businessman Bhadrirangan B found the money kept in a wardrobe had gone missing. The cash was from the sale of a plot nearly two years ago and was being saved for the purchase of a new property, he told police.

The wardrobe key was kept in a drawer near the TV unit. After finding that neither his wife nor mother knew anything about the missing money, Bhadrirangan checked CCTV footage. It revealed domestic help Ratnamma allegedly stealing the money on different occasions. When Rajarajeshwarinagar police visited Ratnamma’s house, she was missing. Her daughter admitted her mother’s role in the theft. Police searched the house and recovered Rs 15 lakh in cash.
