DKS warns stars for not attending film festival

Bengaluru: Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar expressed disappointment over the low turnout of Kannada film industry stars at the inauguration of the 16th edition of Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes), a state-sponsored event, here Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Shivakumar issued a stern warning to the film fraternity, emphasizing the importance of their participation in such events. "This film festival is not a private event of some politicians and some actors. It is a programme for the entire industry, yet only a few actors have participated. Why should the govt conduct a film festival if actors, directors, producers and exhibitors are not interested? Treat it as an appeal or as a caution, but the film fraternity must attend such events in future."
"If you have to make films, you need govt permission. The film fraternity should take note that we are watching every move, and we know where to use the nuts and bolts," Shivakumar added.
He also lashed out at the film industry for not joining him in the campaign for Mekedatu project, which was aimed at increasing drinking water supply to Bengaluru. "I am angry with film personalities for not getting support during the Mekedatu padayatra undertaken by us in the interest of the state. Though invitations were extended to all, only Duniya Vijay and Sadhu Kokila, along with some representatives from Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, turned up. The rest did not," he told the film fraternity.
The minister urged industry members to actively engage in the festival, calling it their own platform. "People in the fraternity better come to such events as it is their own festival, and today I can see very few faces present here," he added.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Siddaramaiah said the proposed 150 acres of Film City near Mysuru will be taken up after the state budget on PPP model.
Actor Shivrajkumar was also present at the inauguration.
