DK Ravi’s parents seek stay on Chambal release, say it maligns him

BENGALURU: The high court on Tuesday ordered notice to both central and state governments and the

Central Board for Film Certification

(CBFC) in a petition filed by parents of

IAS officer DK Ravi

who had committed suicide in 2015, seeking a stay on the release of Kannada film Chambal, which they alleged showed their son in poor light.

Ravi’s parents, Gowramma and Kariyappa, both residents of Doddakoppalu village in Tumakuru, have also sought direction to producers N Dinesh Rajkumar and Mathew Varghese and distributors Jacob Films to arrange for a preview of the film for them before it is released.

Justice Sunil Dutt Yadav, who heard the petition, also ordered notice to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), the film’s producers, lead actors Satish Ninasam and Sonu Gowda.

According to the petitioners, the film portrays a false image of their son, who had earned good name as an upright and brave officer and cracked down on land and sand mafia, builders and tax evaders among others during his stints in Kalaburugi, Kolar and Bengaluru.

They said Ravi has been shown as a person taking bribe from land mafia in the film and it would seriously damage his image in the public. They also claimed that producers and distributors had not acceded to their request for a preview of the film.
