BANGALORE: Depressed after the girl of his choice turned down his proposal, a cable operator committed suicide by hanging inside the girl's residence in Sanjaynagar, near Hebbal.
Shiva Shankar Basavaraj, 25, a resident of Bhoopasandra, barged into the girl's house on Wednesday afternoon and locked himself in her room, Sanjaynagar police said. The girl and her mother tried their best to convince Shiva Shankar to come out, but when he did not open the door, they called neighbours to break it open.
"They found him hanging from the ceiling fan. Shiva Shankar was gasping for breath and was shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital," police said. He died on Thursday afternoon.
"Preliminary investigations say it's a clear case of suicide. However, we will wait for the postmortem report which is expected on Saturday," police added.
Cable connection
According to police, Shiva Shankar fell in love with Nirmala (name changed) while connecting the cable last month. Nirmala, a first BCom student with a reputed college, had shifted to ACC Layout recently, police said. "Shiva Shankar, who had failed Class 7, wanted to marry Nirmala. He approached her parents but they asked him to wait till she finished graduation," police said. On Wednesday, Shiva Shankar again requested for an early marriage, but was turned down.
JUST A MONTH AGO
In a similar case on May 4, Jackio Heisnam, 23, a second-year mechanical engineering student at Bangalore Institute of Engineering in Chandapura, had hanged himself before his girlfriend following a quarrel inside their Suddaguntepalya residence, near Dairy Circle.
