stronger mother

climate activist Disha Ravi

’s mother Manjula told reporters after the Delhi high court granted the girl bail in the toolkit case on Tuesday.

Struggling to hold back her tears, Manjula, a resident of Abbigere, north Bengaluru, said she believed in the Indian judiciary and her daughter was on the right path. “It was a difficult time for all of us, but when you know that your children are on the right path, you need to support them,” she said.

Disha, 22, was arrested by Delhi police from Bengaluru on February 13 in connection with the case and was charged with sedition.

Minutes after the court granted Disha bail, Manjula’s neighbours dropped into her house to boost her confidence. Manjula said her neighbours, friends and family members have been very helpful. “I don’t know how to thank all those who supported me during this phase,” she said.

“Disha instilled a lot of confidence in me, which has made me stronger. When she comes back home, I want to give her a big hug and feed her,” she added. A Delhi court had allowed Disha to speak to her family members every day. She’s likely to be reunited with her mother on Wednesday or Thursday.

Disha had been arrested in a hush-hush operation. A Delhi police team had landed at her doorstep and picked her up allegedly without informing local cops. She was flown to Delhi the same evening and produced in a court which remanded her in police custody for five days.

Employed as a culinary experience manager with a firm, she had started Fridays For Future movement in the city and participated in protests on climate change.
