Death by civic neglect
BANGALORE: V Bhanupriya was on her way to college, Sanjana Singh was returning from tuition. Bright girls, good at studies, eager to make their dreams come true. They didn't factor in civic neglect and apathy. It killed them.
On Tuesday, Bhanupriya tried to avoid a garbage heap on Krumbigal Road and got run over by a private bus. On June 1, Sanjana succumbed to injuries after she got trapped in a compound wall collapse on Hebbal Road.

On Tuesday, the corporator of the area had denied there was garbage dumped at the spot, but on Wednesday, BBMP personnel cleared away the entire heap.
Sanjana file back in BBMP
Even as Sanjana's parents are yet to come to terms with the loss of their elder daughter, files on the probe are still moving from one department to another. Now, the urban development department has moved the file back to the BBMP for action.

Sanjana Singh's parents had gone to the Lokayukta and requested him to take up the issue. After a detailed inspection, Lokayukta submitted a report to the mayor on July 10. Mayor S K Nataraj submitted the report to chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
According to officials of the urban development department, investigation of the accused engineers and contractors is still on. "There's been no delay; the process is on. Four BBMP officials responsible for the shoddy work as per the Lokayukta report have been suspended and a departmental inquiry is on. We referred the case to BBMP 15 days ago. It's now for the BBMP to take the case further," department officials said.

Parents still wait
It has been a painful wait for Sanjana's parents. The family found it difficult to continue living in Hebbal where the accident occurred close to their house. They have since moved to Bannerghatta Road.
For Ashok Singh, Bhanupriya's demise is another reminder of his daughter's untimely death. "I read newspaper reports about the accident and memories of Sanjana came flooding back. It's the failure of the local administration that led to the tragedy. One person's negligence is causing someone else's death," Singh told TOI on Wednesday.
A disappointed Singh even wrote to CM Yeddyurappa. "I got a reply to my mail and it assures justice. But, I do not know the status of the case. I plan to meet the CM. To prevent such accidents taking place in future, the culprits in my daughter's case must be punished," he says.
The Lokayukta report had held responsible contractor turned Yeshwanthpura corporator Munirathna and another contractor G Humesh Kumar, allegedly involved in the construction of the wall in various stages.
