A high court division bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath has allowed the appeal filed by a leather merchant’s family and asked insurance firms to pay Rs 1.62 crore as enhanced compensation with 6% interest from the date of filing the plea.

BANGALORE: A high court division bench headed by Justice K L Manjunath has allowed the appeal filed by a leather merchant’s family and asked insurance firms to pay Rs 1.62 crore as enhanced compensation with 6% interest from the date of filing the plea.
The bench on Monday said Rs 50 lakh each should be deposited in the name of the three appellants — wife of the deceased and her two children.

Suzanna Rahaman, wife of Matheen Rahaman , and her children had challenged the 2006 verdict of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal which gave Rs 30.65 lakh as compensation. Matheen was killed on November 4, 2002, when a goods vehicle hit his car on the highway. He was on his way to Goa.
