mysore: deputy commissioner b. basavaraju inspected the kukkarahalli lake here on wednesday. he was accompanied by bjp mla h.s. shankarlingegowda, mysore city corporation commissioner n. jayaram and mysore urban development authority commissioner v. shankar. shankarlingegowda gave an assurance that rs 2 lakh would be given for the conservation of the lake from the mla''s fund.
the inspection was following an appeal from kukkarahalli lake protection committee convenor jayaramaiah, who had recently met the deputy commissioner seeking urgent measures to improve the conditions of this `dying'' lake. he warned a delay in treatment of water would infect the lake. after inspecting the lake, the dc said he had convened a meeting with the kukkarahalli lake protection committee on saturday to chalk out various plans on ways to raise funds for the conservation of the lake, besides discussing measures to keep the lake and surrounding clean. he said the masterplan mooted by the district administration to conserve five major lakes in the city with rs 6 crore financial support from asian development bank had been delayed as certain procedures, terms and conditions had to be met. also, he said chalking out plans, mapping and survey of the five lakes to be restored would be a time-consuming job, he added. hence, the dc said there was urgent need to get financial support from philanthropists, ngos and other organisations to take up immediate action plans. meanwhile, mla h.s. shankaralingegowda, who accompanied the dc during the inspection, assured rs 2 lakh would be given for the conservation of the lake from the mlas'' fund.
