Dalit youth killed in Yadagiri
YADAGIRI: A young man who allegedly scolded a shop owner for not giving him bread (Roti) was murdered by the shopkeepers on Sunday night.
Deceased is identified as Rakesh, 22, a resident of Hendgar Agasi in the city. The youth's mother, Manjamma, has lodged a complaint with the City Police Station, alleging that Fayaz, Asif, and others from the roti shop strangled Rakesh to death.
Accused Fayaz was running a roti shop at his home. Rakesh, who had gone to his shop near his house on Sunday night, knocked on the door and asked for rotis. Fayaz's family said that no rotis were available. Angered by this, Rakesh went home, cursing, said sources.
Late at night, Fayaz, Asif, and others came to Rakesh's house and questioned why he had come at night. In the heat of the argument, Rakesh was abused, mentioning his caste, and murdered, according to the complaint.
The family of the youth alleged that the police tried to cover up the murder. Despite the late-night murder, a case was not registered. It is said that the police sent the body for a post-mortem only after activists from the BJP and pro-Hindu organizations extended their support to the youth's family. SP G Sangeeta visited and inspected the place.
The police department has not yet given any official statement in this regard, and SP G Sangeeta did not respond to calls for comment.
