However, on landing, Singh's daughter was put under quarantine along with 14 other passengers from Italy.

On March 16, Singh had made an emotional appeal at the legislative council to health minister B Sriramulu to rescue his daughter and 60 other Karnataka students stranded in Rome airport.

The government had assured that it will appeal to the union government to airlift them.

On Wednesday, via Air India, Singh's daughter landed in Bengaluru. However, on landing, it was decided as per policy to quarantine her along with 14 others who accompanied her.

It may be recalled that Italy, after China, is the worst hit nation due to Covid-19 pandemic. As many as 211 Indian students have been stranded in Rome fter the virus broke out and air traffic was suspended.

On Wednesday morning, health minister B Sriramulu told the legislative assembly that he had in fact managed to establish video contact with the students stranded in Rome, including those from Karnataka.

"We are making all possible efforts to bring back our state children from Covid-19 virus hit countries," he said.

At the other end, former Congress minister and MLC Jayamala's daughter who is London continues to be stranded with no word about her being airlifted. The MLC's daughter is pursuing her higher studies at Swansea university in Wales.
