The incident took place around 11.30am when Nagaraj along with police constable Chandrakanth went to Venkataswamappa Layout to nab youths who were allegedly smoking marijuana.

The duo nabbed four persons and called for an autorickshaw to take them to the police station. As the autorickshaw arrived, one of the accused took out a knife and stabbed Nagaraj twice in the stomach. All the four arrested fled in the melee.

Chandrakanth first took Nagaraj to a nearby hospital for first aid and later shifted him to MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital.

DCP (north) N Shashi Kumar said, “We received complaints about some youths smoking and consuming alcohol in the area and creating nuisance. Nagaraj and Chandrakanth visited the area in plain clothes but the accused knew they were policemen as they had a walkie-talkie.”
