Bengaluru: A traffic cop was suspended for dereliction of duty after his superior found him turning a blind eye to a youth implicating his car driver in a hit-and-run fatal accident that he had caused.
Inspector T S Jagadish’s negligence came to light when DCP S Girish visited Chikkajala traffic police station. The DCP found Jagadish accepting car driver Teju’s claim that he had caused a hit-and-run accident that killed a motorcyclist at Menakunte gate, off Ballari Road, on May 20.

The Honda City car had rear-ended the motorbike, killing Ramachandra, 24, a private company employee. The driver had abandoned the car and fled the spot.
Though he had the vehicle number, Jagadish was slow in pursuing the case and arresting the culprit. “The Honda City belonged to Bhavesh Dinesh, 22, a final-year engineering student with BMS College. On Sunday morning, four days after the accident, Bhavesh approached Jagadish saying his driver Teju was responsible for the accident. Without questioning, Jagadish detained Teju and was about to prepare a statement when DCP Girish visited the station,” police said.
“Teju later confessed that Bhavesh had lured him into owning up for the crime by paying Rs 20,000. Bhavesh had also promised Teju that he’ll hire an advocate and get him out of jail soon,” the sources said.
“We knew something was fishy in the case. We have arrested Bhavesh,” said Girish.
