mysore\bangalore: karnataka state finance commission chairman and congress leader t n narasihmamurthy died in mysore on thursday following massive cardiac failure. he was 67. his family members said narasimhamurthy, who arrived in mysore on wednesday night to attend the dasara festival, complained of chest pain and got himself admitted to a private hospital.
hailing from tirumakudalu narsipur town in mysore district, narasimhamurthy was member of karnataka legislative council for five terms. he was also a minister in veerandra patil and bangarappa's cabinets. he had the distinction of being the longest-serving scheduled caste member in any upper house of the country. he used to be the first to share his happiness or grief regarding political developments or demise of politicians by dashing off statements to the media. it is an irony that condolences or obituaries on his death had to wait for a day as all newspapers were closed for the festival on thursday. a person who did not conceal his political ambitions, narasimhamurthy admitted that having served as the opposition leader in the upper house for seven years, he was chief minister material. ``when opposition leaders in the assembly s bangarappa and m veerappa moily and in council ramakrishna hegde and s r bommai can become cms, i too fit the bill,'' he used to say. chief minister s m krishna and his senior cabinet colleagues visited narasimhamurthy's residence. the last rites were performed in mysore on friday.
