CM’s remark on right-wing group sparks disruption
Bengaluru: The assembly witnessed multiple interruptions Monday following chief minister Siddaramaiah's controversial remarks on a right-wing organisation.During his response to the debate on the governor's address, Siddaramaiah said the organisation in question was responsible for instigating violence. The CM was rebutting BJP's criticism on what they called a "deteriorating law and order" under Congress' administration.BJP objected to the CM drawing the right-wing organisation into the debate leading to an exchange that escalated into heated arguments between governing and opposition benches, with BJP members alleging Congress' support for anti-national elements. The situation prompted acting speaker KM Shivalinge Gowda to temporarily suspend proceedings.Upon resumption, tension again rose when a governing party member displayed the national flag, while a BJP member was accused of recording proceedings — a violation of House rules. Both incidents sparked further protests, leading to another adjournment.Speaker UT Khader subsequently held discussions with representatives from both sides and a resolution was achieved when the govt agreed to expunge both the CM's remarks and the opposition's statements about Congress from the records. The House resumed normally after the agreement was reached.
