BENGALURU: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said anti-constitutional forces were conspiring to implement Manusmriti in the country.
Addressing an event involving the reading of the preamble on the footsteps of Vidhana Soudha to mark International Day of Democracy, the CM said: "One should be aware and careful about the conspiracy."
"The destruction of the Indian Constitution and implementation of Manusmriti will mean pushing 90 per cent of the Indian population into slavery.

Many conspiracies are hatched to achieve this," he warned. "Our Constitution begins with the sentence 'We the people of India'. If the objectives of the Constitution are not understood and followed, creation of an equal society will remain a distant dream," he added. The event was organised by the social welfare department.
The government recently decided to make reading of the preamble mandatory in schools and colleges.
Social welfare minister HC Mahadevappa claimed that over 2.2 crore people, who had enrolled for preamble reading from all over India and across the globe joined the CM in the exercise. "The objective of reading the preamble is to create awareness on freedom of women, freedom of press, protection of human rights, communal harmony and dignity of life to all," he added.
"The Constitution was a gift to all the citizens from BR Ambedkar. It is a sacrosanct statute book stressing fairness and equality. Hence, there is an important purpose behind reading the preamble. It will help our children understand the basic principles and ideas on which our country was founded," said Mahadevappa.

Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues also read the preamble and similar events were organised across the state with lakhs of students in attendance. Schools and colleges, government offices and gram panchayat offices too conducted these programmes. Those from corporate, private, government and banking sectors, people from industries and NRIs from several countries also came forward to participate, Mahadevappa added.
