Children paint their dreams, imaginations at Coloursplash 2025 in Bengaluru

If one wished to journey across continents, soak in the splendour of colourful festivals, marvel over world famous landmarks and immerse in the wonders of different cultures, all under four hours, that could only have been possible at The Times NIE Colour Splash 2025 inter-school painting competition. Held in association with Jockey Juniors at Delhi Public School, Bangalore East, the event saw over 650 students from 350 schools transform their creative skills and artistic imagination into a journey of discovery.The themes for the competition, ‘Around the World in a Day – Dream Trip to Famous Landmarks and Cultures' and ‘Travelling Through a Land of Festivals' , inspired the young artists to paint their dreams and depict their imagination on the canvas.While the competition kept the students busy, their parents attended a talk on ‘Valuing Creativity as a Life Skill in a Screen-heavy World'. Addressing the parents at the inauguration, principal of DPS Bangalore East, Manila Carvalho urged them to give their children a listening ear and talk to them constantly. "Adolescents go through a lot of changes physically and mentally. It is important to correct their bad habits, but not pressurise the child," she emphasised.Addiction psychiatrist Dr Asfia Khaleel pointed out learning basic life skills like adaptability, effective communication, problem solving abilities, good time management and coping skills can help one lead a confident and successful life. Digital addiction can be debilitating. To keep children away from devices, it is imperative for parents to be role models themselves, by putting away devices and spending time with their children. Interesting activities that engage and stimulate children, and inculcating reading and outdoor games can help them stay away from screen and gaming addiction, she said. The judges at the event, Urmila V G, Soni Agarwal, Roopa S and Chetna Ganatra, had a tough time, picking the winners. The paintings reflected good technique, vivid imagination and creativity. General manager, marketing, page industries limited, Rekha Nahar, said the core values of creativity, imagination and fun that the event stands for align with the ethos of Jockey Juniors as a brand.
