CET rankings to reflect best of PU exam 1 and 2 results
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2024 will take into account the best of PU exam 1 and exam 2 marks for finalising the rankings. The exam 3 score will be considered for the mop-up round.Speaking at a webinar — CET Prepmaster 2024 — on Friday on KCET preparation, strategy and study plan hosted by Presidency University in association with The Times of India and Vijay Karnataka, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) executive director S Ramya explained that this has been decided in consultation with the department of PU education. “Since we’re taking both the exam results into account, the CET results are likely to be announced by June first week. The results of exam 3 will be used in the mop-up round of counselling, as was the practice with the supplementary exams,” she said. From this year, students get to attempt PU and SSLC exams three times, and the best of the three scores are to be considered.New CET exam pattern?Ramya also hinted that the CET exam pattern would be changed next academic year. With several viewers raising questions on the CET syllabus and the need for reducing it, Ramya said they’d raise the issue of rationalisation with the govt. In a very engaging discussion with the webinar audience, Ramya assured students that the servers have been updated to ensure they take the load of at least a lakh students simultaneously hitting the website for results.About 30,000 students are yet to download their admission tickets. “Students should not wait until the last minute to download. Some of them haven’t paid fees, and some haven’t selected CET option in their applications. Such students haven’t been able to download the admission tickets. Those candidates should have personally reached KEA within the deadline,” she said. Editing options will be provided soon. A panel discussion that was held later featured Raghavendra Hegde, founder of RH Chemistry, a YouTube channel with over 1.8 lakh subscribers, and Vishwanath Y, professor of computer science engineering, Presidency University, Bengaluru. “People think PU and KCET exams are different. But I beg to differ. Whatever they’ve prepared for board exams, the same concepts will be used in CET. In CET, the questions will be time-bound. You’ll be surprised that those who feature in PU ranks will never be among the first few CET rank holders. If the PU rank holders are given 2-3 hours, they can complete all questions correctly. The challenge with CET is time management. Additionally, students get stressed in the exam hall, thinking they have lost out on time trying to answer one question. It is important to be confident and positive,” said Hegde. He advised students to attempt questions in several rounds — starting with the simplest and direct questions, then moving on to those needing time to solve.
