BANGALORE: The Karnataka high court has granted anticipatory bail to seven people, including a district president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), a pro-Kannada organization.
The petitioners, residents of Hassan district, were arrested recently by the Hassa city police in connection with the protest over release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu.
Allowing the criminal petition filed by them, Justice H N Nagamohan Das has directed the police to enlarge them on bail subject to them executing a personal bond for Rs 25,000 each.
The Judge has also asked them to appear before the investigating officer as and when required and also co-operate for completion of the investigation. They have also been told not to tamper with the prosecution witnesses.
The Hassan city police had arrested Ravindra Kumara, district president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and Jameer, Jagannatha, Wazeed Pasha, Mahesha , Prakasha and Raju and charged them under section 143, 149, 427, 324 and 506 of Indian Penal Code and section 3 prevention of damage to public property Act.
