BANGALORE: Bangalore University has come out with another shocker after the recent decision to collect admission fee every year from students. Now, the varsity plans to nearly double the fee for distance education courses.
Undergraduate programmes in distance education presently cost Rs 2,000. This might be increased to Rs 4,000 for the first year and Rs 3,600 each for the second and third years.
For postgraduate courses like M A and M Com, the fee could cost around Rs 5,100, officials said. A decision will be taken by the university syndicate.
At present, around 38,000 students have enrolled in BU's various distance education programmes.
Admissions yet to begin-
BU has not yet started admitting students for its distance education courses. "The paper notification will happen in a few days. We have allotted a 10-day timeline for the prospectus. Classes might commence in December," said N Shadakshara Swamy, director, directorate of correspondence courses and distance education.
Last year, classes were delayed and had started in January. "Usually, admissions are done after completion of admission to regular courses," Swamy said.
Besides, the syndicate will take a decision on the canteen that has not been in use for a few months now. Since the process of calling tenders is taking time, the syndicate will look into alternate means.
MBA courses on the anvil-
BU plans to introduce MBA courses from this year, and they will be priced at Rs 12,000 per semester. The university expects around 500 students to enrol for these management programmes. The varsity's syndicate is expected to take a decision on Friday.
