Police expect the video to help them ascertain the circumstances in which the student committed suicide, an officer said.

A meeting on Thursday between students, who criticised college authorities and blamed them for the death, representatives of the management and police failed to resolve the deadlock as their protests entered a fourth day.

Dr Sasangan Ramanathan, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham dean-engineering and professor of chemical engineering and materials science, was present at the meeting. Assistant commissioner of police PR Vasu also took part.

The students said they would continue the stir.

Harsha faced a disciplinary inquiry in connection with a case of vandalism in the college on September 23 during a protest over substandard food and lack of water in the hostel.

“A college student informed me that another student who dragged my son’s name into the controversy was also present when the committee questioned my son on Monday,” Vijay Bhaskar, Harsha’s father, told TOI. “But the management has not informed me about what transpired during the interrogation.”

College officials have maintained that Harsha was not among 19 students suspended in connection with the vandalism.
