bellary: the members of the district unit of the bahujan samaj party (bsp) organised a protest rally against the defiling of the ambedkar statue in hadagali town, demanding the resignation of karnataka home minister mallikarjuna m.kharge on moral grounds. the members alleged kharge was weak. they said the government had failed to take action against those responsible for incidents like a woman paraded naked in vanenur, disfiguring that took place in kudligi town and the latest, defiling ambedkar statue.
the district administration and police machinery had failed totally, they said. the members alleged the government was a silent spectator in criminal activities against dalits and weaker sections of society. the members stated, in a memorandum submitted to deputy commissioner jawaid akhtar, the district administration and the district police machinery had failed to bring culprits to book. even more disturbing was the fact that the criminals behind defiling the statue had fixed a note on the statue directing the police to absolve 38 persons booked earlier. the protest rally was led by bsp state committee members b.shivalinga nayaka, d.panduranga, mundaragi nagaraj, secretary general, general secretaries t.durugappa, k.eranna, district unit vice president h.arjun and s. vignesh, district convenor, dalith sangarsh samithi.
