Breather for hoteliers? LPG supply may resume soon in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: Hoteliers in Bengaluru are now relieved after oil companies assured them that the supply of commercial LPG would resume soon, easing concerns triggered by disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis.
The Bangalore Hotels' Association said Thursday that restaurants in the city will not shut down, adding that steps are being taken to resume services at establishments that had temporarily closed due to the shortage.
The association's president, PC Rao, said that oil companies assured them of resuming supply, as they expected two carriers to reach Indian shores in a couple of days.
The association held an emergency meeting of hoteliers and decided to keep the eateries running. On Wednesday, the hoteliers met Karnataka chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh and also spoke to senior central govt officials and oil companies over video conferencing.
"Hotels require only about 13% of the LPG consumed in the city. Even if we are given half the amount, that is 7.5%, we will be able to run the eateries," Rao said.
Meanwhile, hotels are also making alternative arrangements, including induction stoves and firewood, to tide over the fuel shortage.
Price rise unlikely
The hoteliers' association said no collective decision was taken on increasing the prices. "We asked all hotels not to increase prices during the crisis. However, the association's recommendation is not binding on individual hotels, as they have their own financial commitments," Rao said.
BBHA honorary secretary Veerendra N Kamat said hotels will coordinate with each other to ensure the supply of food. "Hotels that have a steady supply of fuel will help those facing shortages by sharing kitchens. Around 1,800 hotels have piped gas connections from GAIL," he said.
No need to panic: Bengaluru DC
Bengaluru Urban district deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said there is sufficient stock of domestic LPG cylinders in the district. He appealed to the public not to pay attention to rumours circulating on social media, and said there is no need to panic.
For any issues or grievances related to domestic LPG, the public may contact the helpline number 9611404384.
