Brakes fail, crane moves backward and hits building in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: A crane travelling upwards on a road moved backwards after its brakes failed and stopped after ramming a three-storied building in Kadirenahalli, Banashankari, Saturday.
Fortunately, there were no casualties in the freak accident that occurred around 2am. The damaged building consisted of a shop on the ground floor and two houses on the remaining floors. A parked car was damaged as the crane brushed it.
Police said the crane was moving in Banashankari direction from Training College Circle. “When the crane had completed half-slope, the clutch plate developed a snag. The driver applied brakes but in vain. It was fortunate there were no vehicle behind the crane at that time. The vehicle moved backwards and first rammed an electric pole on the road divider. Then, jumping over the divider, it moved further back and hit the building,” a police officer said.
