BANGALORE: A three-year-old boy sitting on the petrol tank of his father's speeding motorbike was killed after the two-wheeler hit a BMTC bus near Jakkur, Bellary Road, on Thursday evening.
The bus driver allegedly stopped the vehicle abruptly at a place where there was no bus stand to let a passenger disembark, resulting in the accident, Yelahanka traffic police said.
The boy, Likhith Ramamurthy Gowda, was with his father, Ramamurthy Gowda on a Pulsar bike. His mother Sunitha Gowda was riding pillion and the trio was on their way to a relative's house in Sanjaynagar.
They were behind the BMTC bus (route number 280-Yelahanka Satellite Town to Majestic) which veered to the left and stopped suddenly. Caught unawares, Ramamurthy rammed the bike into the rear of the bus.
While Ramamurthy and Sunitha suffered minor injuries, Likhit sustained head injuries and was rushed to Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal. The boy succumbed to injuries later in the night.
Likhith was the only son of businessman Ramamurthy and homemaker Sunitha, residents of Shettikere in Doddajala on Bangalore-Doddaballapur Road.
Police are on the lookout for the driver who fled the scene. "We have contacted the concerned depot manager and shall arrest the driver soon," police said.
