Biffes has brought together a great mix: Kasaravalli

BANGALORE: Award-winning Kannada film director Girish Kasaravalli is all excited about the Bengaluru International Film Festival (Biffes) 2012 which got under way on Thursday. The acclaimed director has a must-watch list at the festival: Iranian film Orange Suit, South Korean director Kim Ki Duk's Pieta, Abbas Kiarostami's film (Like someone in love) and Michael Hanek's Amore.In an interview with the Times of India, Kasaravalli speaks about the festival of which he is one of the organizers.
What are you looking forward to at Biffes 2012?
I have been to many of the film festivals this year and when I look at this film festival, the selection is great and we will be able to watch all those films that won awards last year.
What sort of variety are we looking at?
We have many special collections this year, like Akira Kurosawa from Japan.
It must be a treat to world cinema enthusiasts. What is your preference?
My interests are the South American, African and Asian films. To my delight, there is a great collection of movies from these regions.
What is your take on the festival theme of Anti-war movies?
One of the reasons why this theme has been chosen is that there are many movies in the recent past which are made on this and they have been well appreciated. A good example is the Roberto Benigni's 'Life is beautiful' and it is in our list of movies to be screened. At the same time, this also shows how movies made on subjects such as anti-suppression, gender politics and exploitation are appreciated by people. So keeping this in mind we have picked up the subject of anti-war.
How do you think this festival would attract the multi-ethnic crowd of Bangalore?
I would like to put it in this way. Anyone in the city who is keen on watching some good movies will find them here and this is a good platform for people to explore movies.
