Bengaluru: Students at Government Dental College and Research Institute in Bengaluru's Victoria Hospital premises will get to learn the application of digital techniques in dentistry, with the institute setting up a modern centre for digital dentistry with support of Adani Foundation.
This is a first-of-its-kind initiative in a govt hospital in Karnataka and probably in South India as well, say teachers at the institute, which was established in 1958.
Medical education minister Sharan Prakash Patil will formally open the centre Thursday.
"We have been following conventional and often cumbersome practices. The digital touch with an intra-oral scanner, 3D printer and CAD cam will make our processes and procedures error-free, precise, accurate and fast," said Dr Anoop N, associate professor at the institute. Digital dentistry will help with 3D printing of full dentures along with surgical guides and mock surgical models.
