BENGALURU: Two first-year BCom students were charged with attempt to murder and arrested by Kamakshipalya police after they stabbed another student over a trivial issue inside a bus on Wednesday.
The injured youth, Harikeertan, a second-year degree student, is recovering from the stab injuries at a private hospital. The accused are
Mutturaj
, 19, a government college student and
Hemant
Kumar, 18, from a private college.
Harikeertan, 20, visited his lover’s house in Byadarahalli, Magadi Road around 2pm. There he found Mutturaj and Hemant.
Harikeertan’s love affair had ended abruptly in May, after the girl shunned him. A dejected Harikeertan attempted to hang himself inside his house in August. Moved by the incident, the girl patched up with Harikeertan. However, during the nearly three-month break-up, the girl had grown close to Mutturaj, sources said.
“Harikeertan was of the opinion that the girl liked Mutturaj more. Without intimating the girl, Harikeertan visited her house on Wednesday afternoon and was upset on seeing Mutturaj. Harikeertan is said to have abused the girl as well as Mutturaj. A small fight ensued. Later, Harikeertan boarded a private bus to reach his home near Vijayanagar. Mutturaj and his friend Hemant followed the bus in their gearless scooter and entered the vehicle when it stopped at
Sunkadakatte
. As passengers watched, Mutturaj and Hemant attacked Harikeertan and stabbed him in the chest with a knife before fleeing. The bus driver shifted Harikeertan to a nearby private hospital,” an investigating officer said.
Harikeertan, his lover and Hemant were from the same college.
Harikeertan would call Mutturaj every day to check his whereabouts. He would also visit Mutturaj’s house daily. If Mutturaj wouldn’t be home, Harikeertan would rush to his lover’s house, suspecting him to be there.
"On Wednesday, Harikeertan visited Mutturaj’s house and on not finding him there, rushed to his girlfriend’s house. On finding Mutturaj there, he shouted profanities at both. Muturaj and Harikeertan traded blows,” police sources said.
