Bengaluru to host Hrishikesh Mukherjee retro movie festival
BENGALURU: Celebrating the man behind several emotional, light-hearted and social features like Anand,
The festival would feature 13 of Mukherjee’s finest on-screen creations at three different venues in the city – the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Alliance Francaise de Bangalore (AFB) and Suchita Film Society, Banashankari. Vasanthi Hariprakash, the founder of Pickle Jar, said: “Hrishida’s films carried simple narratives but made a strong impact, a style that seems to be fading away in today’s culture of blockbusters and high budget films. Through this festival, we are trying to revive the values, the idealism and the ethos that Hrishikesh Mukherjee and his films stood for”
“His films were made richer by the beautiful music they carried, which will come alive with a grand musical finale titled ‘Kuch Dil Ne Kaha’ at the Kassia Auditorium. When we began collaborating on this festival, we unanimously agreed upon the fact that we should have a segment that celebrates the timeless music in Hrishida’s films,” said Sheshadri Mokshagundam, the festival spokesperson. Apart from being a trend setting director, Hrishikesh Mukherjee is widely known as an accomplished sitar player and musician.
