BENGALURU: An 82-year-old home-alone woman was found dead at her residence at Mahalakshmipuram II Stage, north Bengaluru, on Saturday evening. The killers took away two gold chains and a pair of bangles worn by her.
Police said Kamala aka Kamalamma was killed between 4pm and 7pm.
Around 7pm, one of her neighbours visited the house and found her lying dead on the bedroom floor with her hands and legs tied.
The miscreants used a plaster to gag her. The door was open and the lights were not turned on. The incident took place only a few metres away from Mahalakshmi Layout police station.
Kamala was staying alone after the death of her husband Nagaraj Rao in October 2022. Rao had retired as an employee of Bangalore Turf Club.
Her son Guru Prasad stays in Whitefield and two married daughters live in south Bengaluru. Kamala didn't wish to stay with her children as she was emotionally attached to the house that her husband had built. Police suspect she was either smothered or strangled to death. Other valuables in the house were intact. However, the exact worth of the robbed valuables is yet to be ascertained.
Deputy commissioner of police (north) Shiva Prakash Devaraju said it looks like she was killed by persons known to her.
"We have got some clues on the killers. They will be arrested at the earliest," he said.
CCTV camera footage of nearby buildings showed that two persons visited the house. Police said there are no signs of forced entry.
Mahalakshmi Layout police registered a case based on the complaint filed by her son Guru Prasad.
