BENGALURU: A 17-year-old second-year Pre-University Course (PUC) student was found dead at her home in Bengaluru, hours after her examination results were announced, police said on Friday.
The student identified as Tanushree, was a science stream candidate and had reportedly failed in three subjects, which is suspected to have triggered the extreme step.
The incident occurred around 3.30 pm on Thursday.
According to police, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan when no one was at home. Her mother had gone to work.
No suicide note was found at the scene. However, her hall ticket was recovered from the bed.
During the initial inquiry, police found that she had spoken to her friends earlier about her results and appeared upset over failing. When she later stopped responding to calls and messages, her friends became worried and went to check on her.
Following a complaint by her mother, Hebbal police registered a case of unnatural death. Preliminary investigation suggests it to be a case of suicide, police said.
