BENGALURU: In the event of

chief secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar

Speaking at the inaugural of the seventh edition of Synergia Conclave 2019, organised by independent think-tank Synergia Foundation, Bhaskar recalled how the city was the first in the country to have a cyber-security branch in its police stations.

Bhaskar said in the past, Karnataka and Bengaluru were considered to be relatively safe as they were far from the country's borders. "But today, the boundaries have fallen. Cyberwarfare has become an issue and when it comes to security, the world is now borderless."

Sanjay Jaju, joint secretary (defence infrastructure panel), ministry of defence, proposed a framework to meet the future challenges of cybersecurity. "I call it the 5E-framework, which means involvement and development of entrepreneurs, equipment, enablers, exports and education."

Experts stressed the need for more dialogues on national security in the southern part of the country. "Issues of national security are almost always discussed in New Delhi. It is important to be brought here," Bhaskar said.

The three-day conclave on the theme, 'The future of security: Beyond the curve', has lined up over 150 speakers including policy-makers, security experts, technologists and scientists.
