Angry and exasperated, none was in the mood to even complain. With water levels rising to six feet in some areas, residents feared for their lives. About 100 people were evacuated from the layout. Authorities say two lakes, Halanayakanahalli and Doddakannalli, overflowed, resulting in the flooding. The SDRF used boats to evacuate people.

Chandrashekhar Mahadev, an IT employee who helped with relief efforts, said about two acres of vacant land near Junnasandra, that was submerged over the past week, broke its walled borders, and flowed into settlements nearby. “This coupled with the overflowing lakes resulted in four lanes of the layout being submerged in 5-6 feet of water,” he said.

Volunteers stepped in to help. Distressed residents moved to vacant houses owned by non-resident Indians or vacant rooms in houses a few streets away.
