Investigators also arrested a varsity executive, Suraj Singh, 29, for his role in the murder. Singh and a gang of four contract killers, now on the run, hacked Dore in HMT Playground in RT Nagar late Tuesday night, police said.

City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao said Angur paid Singh and others Rs 1crore for the murder. Police have launched a hunt for the four men who helped Singh kill Dore, he said. Angur was arrested from his BTM Layout residence and Singh from his JC Nagar house on Wednesday night. Police seized a machete they suspect was used in the crime and bloodstained clothes from Singh’s house.

Officers found Dore, who was vice-chancellor of

Alliance University

from 2010 to 2014, with slash wounds 50 metres from the RT Nagar police station on Wednesday.

Angur, who waged a protracted legal battle with his brother Madhukar for control of the private university, believed Dore’s involvement in the varsity’s affairs was working to his disadvantage, Rao said.
