BENGALURU: The city is all set to play host to the international
puppet festival in January
2017 for the third consecutive year.
Dhaatu, a renowned puppet theatre troupe will organize the festival from January 4 to 8. Pupeeters from India, and other countries such as
Sri Lanka
,
Czech Republic
and
Egypt
will participate in the event.
Director of Dhaatu International Anupama Hosakere said, "The aim of the festival is to revive the knowledge and techniques of puppetry that we have forgotten. Many conferences have also been organized as a part of the festival."
On Friday, Anupama's team presented a performance based on Bhaskaracharya's Leelavati at the National gallery of Modern Art.
Recalling the rich heritage and the antiquity of puppetry, Anupama said, "This is a beautiful form of art, and I am delighted to present it to the younger generation. The festival will begin with a two-day seminar on the philosphy that informs the culture of art forms in India and Asia. We will also be exploring some of the other aspects of the art form including its aesthtics, the use of music, script among others."
The festival will be held at JSS Auditorium in Jayanagar 8th Block.
