NEW DELHI: Bengaluru city police has detained a man involved in a shocking PG intrusion, where a 21-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed of Rs 2,500. The incident, which occurred on August 29, was captured on CCTV and went viral, drawing widespread attention. The video shows the woman waking around 3 am to find an intruder in her room. Initially thinking it was her roommate, she realized it was a stranger when he allegedly pointed a knife at her and tried to intimidate her into silence. Displaying courage, the woman fought back, chased him out, and prevented further harm. Police traced the suspect, identified as 33-year-old bike-taxi driver Naresh Pattam from Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, using CCTV footage and later detained him in Electronics City. Pattam reportedly had a criminal record, including previous robbery and mobile theft cases, and had moved to Bengaluru a year ago with his wife to work as a bike-taxi driver.
A translated text insert on the video read, "On 29-08-2025, an incident of an unknown person misbehaving with a young woman in a PG was reported under the jurisdiction of Sudduguntepalya Police Station. A case was immediately registered, and under the guidance of DCP Fire Division, ACP Miko Layout and PI Sudduguntepalya, he was taken into custody and reported for further legal action.”
The police shared a screenshot of the FIR, along with accused photo, confirming the details, and posted on Instagram : “Women harassment and theft are serious crimes. Those who indulge in such acts will face strict legal action. For immediate help, Dial 112 — Bengaluru City Police always at your service.”Police station had registered an FIR under Sections 75 and 76 of BNS, dealing with sexual harassment and assault.Authorities have assured strict legal action against Pattam.(With agency inputs)
